‘Camera Lucida’ – Journey

Welcome to week #6 of Camera Lucida Photo Challenge

Journey ( Colour )
Journey ( Colour )

This week’s theme: Journey

Middle English: from Old French jornee ‘day, a day’s travel, a day’s work’ (the earliest senses in English), based on Latin diurnum ‘daily portion’, from diurnus (see diurnal).

1 – An act of travelling from one place to another

1.1 – A long and often difficult process of personal change and development

Journey ( Black&White )
Journey ( Black&White )

The first snapshot was taken a few years back, in late Spring beginning of Summer, when nature wakes up slowly and blooms in the most beautiful colours you could ever encounter. This photo always makes me think of a journey…a route that awakens excitement, uncertainty and questions but at the same time happiness, warmth and relaxation.

The B&W caption is more recent, the colours were very similar with the first one, so I’ve played a bit with editing and made it black and white…the feelings and the emotions a B&W picture brings to life are always different…this one triggers a darker route with more shadows, not necessary negative but with deeper impressions.

This week’s theme can be whatever inspires your journey…an early morning caption of your street, the busy highway on your way to work, the narrow roads of the country side, a beautiful walking path from your last holiday…your Route 66 🙂

What will be your Journey?

‘Red Echo Date’ #8

Looking for Inspiration?

Make a choice…and share your thoughts behind this week’s quote 🙂

quote 8

This week’s quote is about choices…

I’ve always believed that when the moment comes I will know which road to follow…but it’s not always that simple!

Every day we have to make choices…from the most simple ones of what to eat for breakfast to more complicate ones that may change our life entirely and sometimes we take them without thinking too much or analysing endlessly…

But there are moments in our lives when choosing doesn’t make us feel more confident in what’s expecting us in the next chapter, it feels more like a hill we are not sure we should climb.

Some will say…’be happy to have a choice…not everyone does’!

It is true…we should feel privileged when the power it is in our hands…but that doesn’t make it easier, because with every choice we make, a new path is born and how do we know if it is the right one?!

If I think about it more than I should…our whole life is a limitless line of choices and maybe it’s ok not to be sure of some because sometimes you just have to have faith it will work out.

Did you make your choice?

Was it the right one?

I would love to read your thoughts on it…

‘The book of Eli’

“God is good, isn’t He?

Screen Shot 2015-05-23 at 15.46.05

Director: Albert Hughes, Allen Hughes

Writer: Gary Whitta

Lead actors: Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson

2010, Action, Adventure, Drama

First thing I would say about this movie is…’it’s not for everyone’!

This is not because of the story, it is mainly because of the visual effects, some harsh and violent scenes, which are not meant for the faint-hearted!

The story starts like so many others before and after…many years after the war, which turned earth into nothing…a lifeless space where only the worst has survived.

‘The book of Eli’ is about sacrifice, enduring the pain for believing in something bigger than yourself, following a higher purpose and protecting the futures of many.

Most of the reviews I’ve read, call this movie, a post-apocalyptic tale – in some ways it is a tale…I would also say that it is a story about hope and the commitment to save the human soul from becoming ephemeral. As we all know, evil cannot exist without pure good, but virtue is sometimes hard to find and extremely difficult to keep alive.

Eli is a lone warrior who takes upon himself to protect and save a sacred book that holds the secret of humanity’s existence and preservation. His nemesis who knows the book’s power wants to take it for himself. The story line brings out the two characters in a constant battle for the most sacred object that can change the humankind’s future.

It’s quit amazing how during the movie, we never actually see what is the content of the book but somehow we become aware of what it could be… I won’t say it here, I will let you uncover that:)

As life proves us each day that we were not created to live and fight on our own…Eli has a companion along his journey…Solara, who does not know the true power of Eli’s cargo but against all odds decides to risk her life to protect it and at the same time save her own.

As I’ve watched this movie, I’ve thought that everything is very predictable but I was so wrong…Eli’s secret will be kept until the end of the movie…and believe me, you will want to discover it!

If you want your heart to race a bit…if you want to see a different side of Faith…if you think you’ve seen it all…think again:), open your mind and let the adventure join you!

One of my favourite lines and something we should all live by:

“Do for others more than you do for yourself”

Enjoy your weekend movie:)

          Story 4

“ Do you choose your cradle or it chooses you?”

…where is home?

It was a question that often came up but they never really tried to find an answer; it never was the right time to think about it and it always touched a nerve in both of them when someone else was asking.

The way they were living was a choice…their choice and throughout the years both of them agreed that when the time is right or when a place will feel like home they will stop traveling and maybe “grow roots”, as others do.

Seeing the world was what they always wanted…discovering the unknown was like a drug for both of them and even if the wonders of the Universe made them feel at home wherever they’ve been, they never felt like belonging.

What it feels like to belong?

Some say it’s an invisible link between your soul and a place…

They never believed that the soul could ever be pinned to one place…the soul it’s free, it’s free to travel from one place to the other, from one time to the next…

How can it belong?

Some try to find an answer all their life and eventually give up and settle down…they stop in one place and surrender their soul to it.

They both believed that the soul should choose their resting place…the place that some day they will truly call home, where their journey will end and a new chapter in their life will begin.

It was the coldest morning of the month…winter was still the master of the ground, spreading its thick white cover followed by a frosty heavy wind.

They were driving through this small town, when something out of place, captivated their attention…

…an old, strange shaped tree on top of a small hill looking down into the heart of this small and somehow charming town.

She asked him to stop the car…mainly because she felt somehow pulled to this place and because he was driving for six hours and they both needed some rest.

“ Doesn’t that look interesting?”, she asked with a curious voice.

“ What does?”, he was paying too much attention to the heavy snow on the road and saw the tree up the hill just as he turned around.

“ That tree…it’s odd, but I feel the need to walk up there and look at it more closely “, she said very determined to feed her curiosity.

“ It’s very cold and I am worried about the car…we should find a B&B and maybe stay over night”, he said with a serious voice.

She agreed with the condition that once the snow and the wind will stop he will accompany her in a walk up the hill to that mysterious tree.

“ Fine…I am not sure why we have to do this but you are making me eager to find out the story of that tree…if it has one “, he said smiling.

There was something about this place that made both of them feel at peace, which it wasn’t a well-known feeling for either of them. In their travels they had their own share of adventures, quests, amazing discoveries, dangerous journeys which made them feel more alive than anything but nothing made them feel…peace…just wonderful silence that fuels the soul.

They’ve waited a couple of hours, had some breakfast at a nearby B&B and once the sky cleared and the snow became more crisp at every step…they walked back along the road until they’ve reached a clear path towards the hill.

For the first time, they didn’t speak too much with each other…both of them were somehow fascinated by the look and shape of the tree.

“ It looks like it’s one of a kind…but at the same time it belongs to this scenery “, she said with a light in her eyes holding his hand tighter than before.

“ You’re right…I don’t remember seeing anything like it “, he was starting to get more interested in what they will find once they’ve reached the top.

It felt like it took longer than it should have….maybe because as they’ve got closer and closer, they’ve became more intrigued questioning more and more…not just the tree itself but their intentions.

Why was this place more special than any other?

Once they’ve made it to the top, the only thing they could think of was where to sit down and rest…from the bottom of the hill it didn’t look like a long walk but the thick snow made it harder and longer.

After a few minutes of catching their breath, here they were…intrigued.

The tree looked down into the heart of this small, unknown town that seemed the most peaceful place on Earth… and it held all the history of all the people, that left a mark on its trunk.

“ It’s fascinating…”, she said running her hand through all the carvings on the tree.

“ All the stories that this tree holds…if it could only speak…” he said smiling.

“ There is so much life in this one place and so much peace as you look down “, she turned around and gave the town another look…but it wasn’t just a look, it was so much more than that.

“ This is it… “ , she said with a slight hint of joy in her voice.

He looked at her amazed…amazed because he felt the same…

“ I never felt like this anywhere before…for the first time I know that we belong here “, she couldn’t believe what she was saying…It’s been just a few hours since they’ve arrived and she felt home.

Where is home?

Home is where you feel the peace…the silent message of your soul, telling you that you belong…

Some journeys in our life are long and full of questions to which we can never find the answers…some quests are short and surprisingly wise.

What we sometimes fail to see it’s that the journey it’s always there…it’s our own way of finding our destiny…our home.

…and there are a few journeys where we are just silent travellers and we let ourselves be taken to where we should be…the choice it’s not always ours.

Note from the author

This month I’ve tried to tell four different stories linked to one place, ‘a tree’…

The idea behind it was to show how everything around us it’s linked…how emotions and moments of our lives are connected. From the young love which wants to become eternal, the writer looking for inspiration to the pain of a memory and the discovery that we all belong somewhere…each and every story has one thing in common…a place in time, that lives because it holds destinies and dreams of everyone that left a mark while following a journey.
