Writing 101 – Day Three

…oh, this seems to be slightly harder:)

Third day’s assignment – ‘Commit to a writing practice’, write about the three most important songs in your life, what do they mean to you?

2015-04-08 22.00.03-1

1. Stick with you…by Pussycat Dolls

He took her hand and pulled her close to his chest…she was worried more about not stepping onto her dress than anything else, it was their wedding day…

He kissed her gently on the cheeks and whispered in her ears…

‘I don’t wanna go another day,
So I’m telling you exactly what is on my mind…

Nobody gonna love me better
I must stick with you forever ‘

In one moment the world seemed to stop…it was just them, together as one…beating as one heart, thinking as one mind…wishing for eternity and never-ending love.

2. Classicby MKTO

Her long red dress turned heads as she walked along the room…she saw him from afar and smiled…

It was the first time she felt out of this world…pure happiness with no regrets! He was the one, the only one:

‘Old school chic

Like a movie star

From the silver screen…’

His heart was beating faster as she got closer, it was the same feeling every time…she looked timeless, just so classic.

3. Joyride…by Roxette

Her hair was one with the wind…and even as the car was gaining speed, she stood up and spread her arms, wishing for one second she could fly…she felt free!

He reached for her hand to pull her back to safety as she was signing as loud as she could”

 Hello, you fool

I love you…’

They both smiled…they were riders in a love game, following the stars…

Note from the author:

I’ve tried something different today…it might not be to everyone’s liking but I’ve enjoyed sharing three of my most favourite songs that have profound meaning to me…told through short, very short stories….I would go as far as to say, ‘just an unique way’:)))

As writers we push our limits, wanting more each time…

Writing 101 – Day One

First day’s assignment: ” Unlock the Mind”- write freely for 20 minutes…and this is what happened:) Enjoy reading!

“It was the very first time since his recovery, when he had the courage to think about painting again…

The studio seemed so empty without his work…there were two white canvases left in the corner on the floor, all his tools, brushes have been locked away for safe keeping, just waiting for the right time…

Today seemed to be the right time…

He opened the window for a bit of fresh air…the warmth of the sunlight touched his face for a second, as he turned around and gave the room another sad look. For a moment he wanted to give it all up and leave…there were too many memories he wasn’t ready to face yet, but suddenly he heard a familiar voice whispering: “face your fears because there is no going back now…”

It was something a good friend told him a few days ago, he didn’t pay much attention then but now it was the only thing he could think of.

Slowly, he walked towards a rusty chest of drawers…checked his pockets for the keys and opened it. There wasn’t much there and the idea that he would have to go and buy a lot of things to able to paint scared him a little bit more than he was comfortable to admit.

He picked the less damaged canvas off the floor, wiped the dust of it and placed it on the stand.

….after an hour just looking at it, he felt empty…there was nothing he wanted to share . How would he ever find inspiration again? He closed his eyes and strangely he remembered moments from his childhood that he thought were long forgetten…weekends spent at the equestrian center with his father, riding together…

…he smiled.

…he did have something to share.

He spent the whole night painting… the desire to capture a moment of happiness was too strong. At that moment it was the only thing that made him feel alive…a memory, a glimpse of the past that found the way back in his life, at the time he needed the most a reason to keep going…”

‘Counting stars’ The End

“ Love knows no distance, it has no continent; its eyes are for the stars” Gilbert Parker

Day…to remember

The sun was going down, the air became less hot and the wind gave a warm feeling of   tranquility…

Sophie remembered her evenings spent with the family…she missed them but somehow found herself belonging; maybe it was Henry and his gentle look full of care towards her or Joanne and her motherly touch every time she looked at her and smiled.

She couldn’t explain why she was feeling the way she was but she stopped questioning it and just embraced the present and the joy and happiness her heart was full of now.

They were sitting around the wooden table on the small terrace in front of the house, enjoying hot chocolate and each others company when Joanne decided to begin telling the Legend of the falling stars…

“ I cannot believe you don’t remember it, Henry…it use to be your favourite story, you made me tell it over and over again throughout the years”, said Joanne before she dived into the magic that’s Bridgehollow.

“ I don’t know…it’s strange but I don’t remember this one”, answered Henry surprised of himself.

He didn’t remember or he had to forget…it didn’t matter now, because she was here, next to him and even if the circumstances weren’t the most credible, he was truly and madly in love and no one could ever take that away from him.

“The Legend of the falling stars…

It is said that many many years ago Bridgehollow belonged to the skies; it was believed that it was the only place that stars could become humans and live as us, an earthly life.

The rules allowed each star in their life time to come down once and experience and learn everything that was to know about people. It was their purpose to discover love, embrace it and share it with each other.

Some stars lived their earthly lives fulfilling their destiny, some returned without it…the legends say that each star had seven days to find their purpose and if they failed they would return to the skies with no memory of they ever being down on earth.

The ones that had their path joined and eventually shared by human feelings where love became a part of them; they were given a choice, they could become mortals and live between humans or they could return to the skies and become stars again.

For a long time, Bridgehollow became a safe heaven for stars, until one day, when one of them broke the rules by revealing her origins to a mortal in the hope that she could reach her goal and gain his love.

From that day forward, stars were forbidden to return to earth, they were punished to only look down on us and never be able to live or feel the true essence of life…love.

With time many tried to overrule this decision and one day a miracle happened…people started to look up to the sky and admire the stars, write stories about them, named them and sometimes even talk to them. The earth didn’t seem to look that cold anymore from above and the dark skies filled with bright stars gave hope and magic to the ones below.

We were world apart but somehow managed to make a connection…it is said that a young boy fell in love with a star and every night pleaded her to come down to him, but she never did, she couldn’t…he painted her every night more and more bright until his hand were so tired he couldn’t lift the brush, he was in great pain and his heart was slowly stopping its beats, until one night…when she came to him in a dream, whispering to his ears: ‘Paint me falling from the sky and I will be yours’…

And so he did…and since then it’s believed that every now and then a falling star is painted and she will fall for the hand that claimed her.

The end.”

Joanne enjoyed every second she spent telling stories filled with magic and wonder; it somehow made her feel part of an ancient mystical line that knew The Secret…

For a few minutes nobody seemed to say anything…Henry suddenly remembered Sophie’s words on the first day they’ve met, “…you’ve claimed me!”.

Was that even possible?

These are just stories…does anyone believe that they are true?

What is really magic…a child’s view of the world, an adult’s desire to hide from reality or something extraordinary beyond our comprehension?

Sophie was taken by surprise … she heard this story before but never imagined that it will turn out this way. She was scared that everyone might realise who she really is; she could never explain how a story like this was actually a reality for hundred of years.

Her purpose…was to find love?

Joanne and George returned to the house as it was getting dark outside, leaving Henry and Sophie together on the terrace.

Neither of them knew how to start talking…or even if they should say anything.

“ Interesting story…”, said Sophie with a low tone. She wanted to say it out loud, scream about it…she was alone, with no idea what she should do next; Henry seemed to be her only focus, he made her feel calm, safe and somehow loved.

“ Sophie…I have to be completely honest with you but I don’t know how to say this”, Henry was scared, not of what he will say but more of what will happen if he says it.

“ We’ve met six days ago and you don’t seem to remember it”, he said it and for a moment he didn’t believe himself; the words coming out of his mouth were just not real.

“ What…what do you mean we’ve met six-day ago?”, said Sophie with a scared voice.

“ It’s the truth, believe me! Six days ago I saw you along side the road, you seemed lost so I stopped the car to help if I can, we’ve spent the day together, we had lunch…”, he stopped talking. Sophie’s eyes were wide opened, looking at him like he was crazy. She was more confused than ever, what was happening to her didn’t make any sense.

“… we’ve had chicken sandwich and you loved it. We talked a lot but you never seemed to truly open up, is there anything you want to tell me?”, asked Henry hoping she will have an answer for what was happening to them.

“ If I have anything to say? Did you hear yourself, how crazy it sounds what you’re saying? I never met you before today, I couldn’t have…because I’ve never been…”, she suddenly realised if he sounds crazy how would she be if she will tell him the truth.

“ You’ve never been…what, what Sophie?”, asked Henry with anger in his voice. He wanted to know…to know who she really was.

Sophie stood up and turned towards the stairs…she wanted to leave, this was too much; she thought she could handle being so far from home, that finding her destiny couldn’t be this complicated. She cared for Henry and despite of how unrealistic his story sounded, she did feel as she knew him better than she thought, like they’ve shared more than just a day together…

“ I didn’t mean to upset you…I am as confused about this as you, but I am just trying to be honest with you because I care about you! For the past few days, the only thing I looked forward each morning was to see you, talk to you, just be near you…”, said Henry trying to stop her from leaving.

“ Something is wrong, very wrong Henry…I don’t remember any of it”, Sophie stopped, her eyes were full of tears and she needed answers.

“ Please tell me the truth…who are you?”, Henry was begging for an answer that he knew in his heart but needed to hear it out loud.

He took her hand and placed it on his chest, where his heart was beating faster and faster, her whole body was trembling not because she was afraid but because for the first time she was feeling vulnerable.

“ I don’t care who or what you are Sophie…my life changed the moment I saw you, I am in love with you…”, he never said that before to anyone, but it felt right, he needed to let her know no matter what will happen, she had to know how she changed his life.

He pulled her closer to him, ran his fingers through her long and silky hair and kissed her rosy lips with so much passion that for a second nothing else existed but them…they were the centre of the whole Universe. Time stopped and the sky was brighter than ever, stars were shining like they were celebrating a new accomplishment of a fellow star…she found her purpose after all.

Sophie was feeling happy, nothing could harm her as long as he was holding her tight in his arms…she closed her eyes for a second and all the memories of the past days came back like a storm…every morning they’ve met, the walks along the sea, the beautiful blue sea, the sound of their laughter, the warmth of his touch…she remembered everything and at that moment she understood her destiny.

It was Henry…she looked at him with love in her eyes and she knew there is no other place in the world she should be but here, with him.

“ I remember…”, she smiled at him.

“ I don’t understand…how?!”, he was happy but still puzzled about everything.

“ You are the reason I am here…I fell for you, because you’ve painted me”, she had no reason to hide anything from him anymore.

“ You mean…the falling star”, Henry couldn’t breath, even if in his heart he knew the truth, hearing it, made it sound ridiculous.

They’ve both turned and looked at the sky…Sophie was saying goodbye to her world, she found what she was seeking; Henry finally had the magic he always wished for, tight in his arms.

The sky was covered by millions of stars looking down and secretly hoping that someday, when the time is right, they will find their destiny as well…

As the warm summer wind was gently embracing the trees all around, from above, Bridgehollow lived to be the same magical, long forgotten town…where anything is possible.

The End

‘Counting stars’ Day 3…4,5

 Day 3…4,5

“ For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream” Vincent Van Gogh

They didn’t really speak too much on the way into town, Henry tried to think of what to say, Sophie felt alone and so far from home.

When Henry introduced himself again, Sophie did not hesitate to say her name, she was somehow more sure of herself, even if her true identity was unknown to Henry, she seemed willing to open up slightly.

Her kind always was a mystery to people, always raising questions, looking for meaning but never really discovering their true purpose.

She was raised by two amazing parents who taught her everything she needed to know to be the best and shine brighter each day and when the time came for her to leave everything she ever known, there were still so many questions that weren’t answered… She knew her destiny was far away and she had to pursue it but it’s harder when you don’t know what you’re looking for.

‘Everything will be revealed when the time is right’, her father used to say.

‘It’s better to enjoy the journey and be open to all possibilities…our destiny is the reward for all the challenges we meet along the way, so always be prepared to expect the unexpected’, her mum was someone very wise and whom found her own faith in a similar journey which she never revealed entirely.

Sophie knew her journey has begun, only if she would know what was she had to discover…’it couldn’t be Henry’, she thought, maybe he was a piece of her puzzle that was slowly coming together.

Henry started to talk about Bridgehollow, of it’s mysteries and especially about the legends of Silver Woods.

Joanne used to put him to sleep when he was little with amazing stories about magical creatures which were born out of those woods and believed to be, now protecting Bridgehollow.

Henry asked Sophie if she would join him for lunch…he was thinking that this time around they could spend more time together and maybe he could figure out what is really happening.

Once arrived into town, they decided to go for a walk, Sophie wanted to see the harbour…look at the sea for the first time from the ground and not from above.

“ Everyone seems to be so friendly around here, It feels like I’ve been here before”, said Sophie smiling.

“ Bridgehollow it’s a special place and we always try to make everyone feel welcomed”, answered Henry with pride in his voice while more questions were queuing in his mind.

‘Counting stars’ Day 2

” Life gives us endless possibilities to live the magic…it’s our choice to take the journey”

2015-03-09 22.53.46

           Day 2

The ride to the town seemed to last forever…there was a strange feeling that nothing made sense to either of them.

Henry stopped asking questions as there were no answers that made sense anyway, Sophie just didn’t want to talk at all, maybe because she knew more she could reveal.

“ Sorry I didn’t mean to upset you, I just didn’t understand what you’ve meant”, said Henry trying to clear the air.

“ Oh no, I am fine…sorry I am just a little bit confused. I don’t really know this town and unfamiliar places make me act strange sometimes”, answered Sophie.

“ So you’re passing through then, well just so you know Bridgehollow is a great place, almost magical, some would say”, Henry assumed if they will start talking about other things maybe she could find him very interesting.

Sophie didn’t say anything…her mind was full of questions that had no answers at this time; she never left home before and change always scared her.

She remembered hearing stories of others who left home, more than once, of their interesting experiences, of new people they’ve met, of the connections they’ve made and most important of how they fulfilled their destiny.

Was the same thing happening to her?

Was this her destiny…Henry?

She looked at him again…now with curious eyes, hope made way into her heart, that maybe falling wasn’t such a bad thing.

“ So, where should I leave you in town?…I am making some grocery shopping for my grandmother, if you like we can have lunch at Claire’s Bistro, she does an amazing chicken sandwich”, said Henry hoping she will be interested and accept his invitation.

Sophie was thinking she doesn’t know what is the plan here so what harm could it do if she would try and get to know him better.

Henry finished shopping faster than ever…he did have an alternative motive for it, he was very excited to see Sophie again; they’ve agreed to meet in front of the bistro after an hour.

Sophie really wanted to gather her thoughts and try to make sense of it all, so she went for a walk ending up at the harbour pier. The sea seemed so different from here, it looked larger and peaceful, carrying all her worries far away.

“ Beautiful, is it?”, said a strange voice, getting closer and closer.

She was very far within her contemplation and didn’t hear the voice of the man who was walking towards her.

George was walking back from his boat, when he noticed Sophie, she looked lost but somehow at peace watching the waves move along with the wind; the sea made him feel sometimes the same, not knowing where he was heading but trusting the embrace of the water would place him where he needed to be.

He stopped next to her, “ I love the water, it makes me feel at home somehow”, said George not realising Sophie didn’t hear him before.

She turned and felt scared for a moment, she didn’t know anyone here, why was this man talking to her.

“ I am so sorry if I bothered you, I just like to see people looking at the sea with the same love as I do”, said George trying to put her at ease.

“ No, you didn’t bother me, I am just not used to talking with strangers, everyone here seem to be so friendly…like you all know each other”, answered Sophie taking a deep breath.

“ Yes, you’re right, Bridgehollow is like a huge family…which can be sometimes unusual for an outsider”, said George smiling.

‘Outsider’, she remembered who she really was, she didn’t belong here, how could she…her home was so far away that it was impossible to imagine she could ever get back; her eyes got full of tears, she felt lonely… an outsider.

George noticed the sadness and thought to try to comfort her but then changed his mind…it wasn’t his place to ask questions, she was after all, just a girl passing through.

Henry was waiting in front of Claire’s Bistro when he saw her walking towards him from afar…his heart started beating faster, strange feelings filled his thoughts and for those few seconds she became his whole focus, his centre of the Universe.

He ordered two of the famous chicken sandwiches and could not stop looking at her for one second…she noticed his complete devotion but decided not to pay too much attention to it. They’ve stayed in silence for a while, when suddenly Henry started talking.

“ So what is your favourite colour?”, he realised it was a silly question but he did not know how to break the ice.

“ I think it’s blue…I am not really sure”, said Sophie little bit confused. She never thought of colours before, everything was a mosaic from where she looked at the world, but she remembered the colour of the sea and the feeling of peace and comfort it gave her.

“ Really, mine too”, said Henry smiling and thinking this was a sign…or was he just hoping for too much in not enough time?!

“ This sandwich tastes really good, thank you for letting me join you for lunch”, said Sophie looking happy.

“ I love coming here since I was little, besides my grandmother’s cooking there is nothing tastier than this”, said Henry lifting up the amazing sandwich like it was a trophy.

“ You’ve said you paint…I sometimes do the same; I love to imagine distant worlds and pretend I am there through my drawings”, she surprised herself saying it, no one ever made her feel so comfortable in sharing things about her life…

“ Then you are in the right place”, said Henry very excited, “ this place is magical, it’s like a different world filled with unimaginable possibilities”.

Did he really know what magic was or what the unknown could make happen?

If she would tell him who she really was, would he believe her or would he run for his life?

But the rules forbid revealing your true self before faith shows you the path…that was what  everyone taught her and she always lived by the rules.

They’ve spent a couple of hours together…Sophie wanted to say who she was so many times, it just sounded so unbelievable in her mind that she was sure Henry will not believe any word, even if his heart had no frontiers and his imagination was always larger than he admitted.

Henry asked if she would still be in town tomorrow as he wanted to see her again, Sophie wasn’t sure what to say, she didn’t really know how this journey of hers will end…

“ I don’t know, maybe…”, she wanted to say more but tomorrow was unknown to her as well.

Secretly they both hoped for another day…he was falling for her but she saw him as a new discovery; Sophie wasn’t any girl, she never felt love, she didn’t know what love was…her destiny was to find it…that was her hidden path; if only she would know…

Henry spent his day thinking about tomorrow, hoping for another encounter with Sophie. She became like a vision, a muse that inspired him…he spent hours painting and didn’t want anyone to see until he was done.

When Joanne saw the portrait, she was lost for words…it was the most beautiful image of an angelic face glowing like a star; she never felt so proud of his work…it was exceptional.

George couldn’t believe his eyes…it was the girl from the pier:

“ I saw her…do you know her Henry?”

“ Yes, I’ve met her today…”, said Henry smiling.

“ She is beautiful…”, said Joanne while noticing a new light in Henry’s eyes.

He didn’t sleep much, every time he closed his eyes, she was there…looking at him, smiling, holding his hand.

In the morning he couldn’t get up fast enough, Joanne knew he will go into town again to try to find her…she was worried he will have his heart-broken for the first time and it’s not easy just to sit back and watch it all happen because there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Henry took the car and drove into town…

On the way he noticed Sophie walking along the road; for a split second he felt so happy to see her again but then afraid of what might or might not happen today.

“ Hi there Sophie, I am happy to see you again”, said Henry with joy in his voice.

“ Sorry, do I know you?”, answered the girl along the side of the road.

Henry was confused…she was the girl whom he met yesterday, how could she not remember him?!

“ It’s me Henry…”, he tried to make sense of it all.

“ I don’t know who you are, I never saw you before…” she was as confused as him.

Deja vu never seemed real to Henry but he had no explanation to what just happened to him…did he dream it all, was he re-living yesterday, did time stopped and he is just repeating the same day, was this girl suffering from amnesia…questions, questions with possible answers that didn’t make any sense.

No matter what was happening, he decided to play along because he wanted to spend just one more day with her.

“ I am so sorry, I think you look exactly like somebody I know”, said Henry hiding the truth, that was really a secret for him too.

“ That’s fine…I am Sophie”, she knew there was more to it, but she was curious about him.

…and the second day just started again for both of them…what did the future had reserved for them was unknown, somehow mystical…but then again everything that happens in Bridgehollow is somehow unique.
