Chocolate Snow White

Childhood memories…

That item, colour, sound, taste or smell that takes you back to those years when everything was just like magic and tasted like cotton candy.

This recipe I am sharing with you is just that…one of my sweet childhood memories that I have kept along the years and which always brings me joy and happiness with every bite.

My Snow White cupcake….just a little twist on the original recipe

The original recipe comes as a cake, but I just recently wanted to try something new, so the Snow White cupcake was born.

Ingredients:

Cake/cupcake

200 g plain flour, 250 g caster sugar, 85 g cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda, 2 eggs, 200 ml milk, 120 ml vegetable oil, 2 tsp vanilla essence, 150 ml boiling water.

Meringue/top decoration

4 egg whites, 220 g powdered sugar, pinch of salt

Kitchen items:

Hand whisk or food processor (in my case I have used KitchenAid for the cake and a hand whisk for the meringue), large heatproof bowl, cupcake cups, decorating pipe, cake tin or muffin pan.

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4 and line the cake tin with great proof paper or get your cupcake cups ready using a muffin pan.

2. Beat the eggs and sugar until smooth, then add the rest of the ingredients except the boiling water.

I’ve used my KitchenAid to mix everything well but you can also use a hand whisk. Once the ingredients are well combined, add the boiling water slow while whisking. The mixture will now be very liquid. Pour the batter into a cake tin or the muffin pan and bake for 20-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

3. Remove the cake/cupcakes from the oven and let it cool down before decorating.

Meringue

Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until the mixture resembles a fluffy cloud, then add the sugar bit by bit while still whisking at a higher speed and making sure you add the sugar slowly.

When ready the mixture should be thick and glossy and ready to be whisked over hot steam.

Put water to boil in a dish that can hold a heat proof bowl above.

You can now transfer the mixture into the heat proof bowl and continue to whisk above heat at a low speed for about 5-10 minutes.

Remove from the heat, set aside for 10 minutes before decorating the cake or cupcakes; then sprinkle with dark chocolate, optional.

I’ve only decorated with chocolate the cake version of this dessert, see below.

The cake version is the one I remember from my childhood

This dessert takes me back but it’s also one of the best I have ever made.

Try it and tell me what you think….

My World

Letter to Olive and Noah,

Everything has completely changed the day you were born…is probably the simplest words I could use to try and portray my life today.

I watch you while I write these lines and I am trying to remember my days before YOU.

I do remember the early mornings, not as early as we have now, the commute to work, the long meetings, the adult conversations and lunch breaks, the gossips over coffee…

I remember the evenings spent in your daddy’s arms, you might not know this, but I used to call him hubby…

I remember the long hours we used to spend relaxing on the sofa watching our favourite TV shows…

I remember date nights, dinner and a movie, kisses and holding hands…

I remember food shopping in the weekend without a shopping list, eating smoked salmon canapes for breakfast and enjoying a delicious coffee and a croissant after…

I remember being bored every now and then…

I remember your daddy saying we might be missing something in our lives…

You are both asleep and I smile…

I wonder if you know how you have changed our world…how, in a blink of an eye, you have become our entire reason for living?

You might ask me if I miss anything from my life before you…

Not in the way I have imagined I would…

I have to be honest and tell you that being a parent is not easy but it is the best choice we have made. No day is the same, some are harder than others but somehow every evening we go to bed happy and fulfilled…grateful for the life we now share.

Some days I miss not feeling so tired and some days I don’t remember my life before YOU!

Do you know why?

Because every time I look at your sweet faces, especially when you are asleep 😊 I don’t know why we have waited so long to bring you into this world.

One day we will remember the sleepless nights, the five second showers, the 5am eggs and crumpets breakfast, the anxiety I feel when we need to leave the house, the adventure of changing nappies, the few minutes spent with daddy on the sofa just to make sure we still remember each other…and we might miss these moments too.

I do know that every day brings a new adventure into our world and I couldn’t ask for more, because my life has only been what I have once dreamt it could be, since you two have been born.

What I am certain of is that even if some days are harder than others, much harder and I feel overwhelmed, YOU have changed my world for the better…and I am excited to celebrate every milestone and to see the world for the first time through YOUR eyes❤️

With love,

Mummy

Kiss it sweet…

‘Take a snap of the moment and hide it…you never know when you will need it.’

Today’s post its all about comparison but also about choice…the best sweet choice.

As I add more to my Sweet Lips Chronicles, I am realising that it’s about so much more than just a new colour or a new brand of make-up; I am slowly discovering how visual everything is and how much I love photography.

So, my lovely reader…if this is the first time you have stopped here, welcome and thank you for giving me the chance to share this with you 🙂

Optical illusion

Revlon 715 Arabica… in case you were wondering.

This range of lipsticks from Revlon its not the most exciting that I have in my collection but its very practical.

If you are the person who puts a lot of weight on functionality and doesn’t necessarily have a lot of time to compare and test, this range is perfect.

The shades are soft but they do make a statement; they are easy to use for those crazy mornings when you do not even have time to look in the mirror.

Revlon 770 Twilight

The collection of shades is a small one but you do have pretty much everything you need, your red, purple, brown and nude…

The texture is very smooth and it does hydrate for a long period throughout the day…the catch is that you will have to apply it a few times.

My favourite

Revlon 705 Dawn

This is the shade I go to… simple but effective for those times I need to trust a lipstick as everything else around me is moving with the speed of light.

As much as we want to be bold all the time, being practical is a blessing and you definitely need a product that you can trust.

So if you have not yet tried it and it looks tempting…go for it!

More than just a shade…

It has been a while since I have written or blogged about anything…

I think sometimes you just need some time off or life takes over and you don’t even realise how long it has been since you’ve done something you love…

But…let’s not talk about the past; let’s take a peak into the future or even truly look at the present!

My Sweet Lips Chronicle was always meant to be a little piece of what I think its beautiful and it deserves to be shared with those of you who might feel the same.

A lipstick might have been just a lipstick 30 years ago, but its not just that anymore.

Most of us use it to make a statement, to feel empowered and bold…but let’s not forget that sometimes we just use it because it makes us experience another side of us!

Colour is Art

I absolutely love this Bourjois lipstick (Rouge Edition no.41 Pink Catwalk)…and not just because it looks amazing in pictures 🙂

On lips it looks like a soft but bold pink, which is always attractive…

If you have never tried a pure pink lipstick because you think its not for you but your hidden thoughts always circle around the possibility, this Bourjois colour could be your best first choice.

Dark and Beautiful…

You can always choose Revlon Black Cherry if you are daring and want something different.

There was a time when we only used dark colours as part of evening make-up…but we are living interesting times and as the saying goes ‘rules are meant to be broken‘ … if its for sweet lips 🙂

Photography is art…make-up is a beautiful indulgence that could easily become an artistic tool of self expression.

At least…that is exactly what it has turned out to be for me!

See you soon…

Beautiful Vision

“My Plan for Today…wear lipstick and be sexy”

In my search for the perfect lipstick, I’ve stumbled upon a new brand…KIKO MILANO.

Besides beautiful colours, this brand is a total vision to photograph.

Kiko Milano

There is a certain appeal towards being adventurous and this brand just makes it so easy.

The world of saucy lips is full of fascination and colour, which makes it effortless to find what we want.

When it comes to texture, shade or aroma, we have become a bit more selective.

The old simple red lipstick, will just not do…we need scarlet, ruby or cherry…claret and wine and sometimes the bold cardinal with a touch of strawberry fragrance…we demand sweet scent and smooth finish, consistency and endurance.

Did you ever think that buying the perfect lipstick will involve so many variables?

Is it just me, or getting your make-up bag sorted resembles a bit like when you try to discover your new favourite coffee flavour?

You can’t just pop-in your corner coffee shop and ask for a plain simple coffee…

Do you like it short, medium or grande…with a hint of caramel, chocolate or pumpkin…fat free or whole milk…latte or mocha?

Hint of Red

If once upon a time you’ve thought there is no choice, today you might reflect on that and   appreciate the countless variety of beautiful glow that is available to you.

Sometimes it takes just one look to find the one, between the many or several searches to discover the unlimited collection you can possibly end up with…either way, the journey is worth it 🙂

Bold Crusade

Keep looking for the rainbow…because life is art, so live yours in colour.

There are times when pictures are enough to tell the story…share the emotion…create the joy of daydream…

…and sometimes words can whisper the fairy tale…

This week I will take you on a journey of the knights…the extraordinary champions, MaxFactorX.

I am always searching for something new, special or just different…but most of the time, I am surprised to realise that I don’t really need to scavenge so much…

The fairy tale, that something special…is part of me, just waiting to come out, to come true…I just require a full bucket of creativity 🙂

Well, when talking about MaxFactor…there is plenty of creativity and so much more of bold fascination for colour, taste and texture.

I don’t know about you but there is nothing I love more than the scent of sweetness on my lips…and besides my own charm, all I need is some Blush25 by MaxFactor.

As always, we look better in pairs, matching and accompanied 🙂

So, this time, I have some ideas for a perfect match making!

My choice might not be your choice…and that is just fair, but may the bold and beautiful be always your first pick!

Julia
