Chocolate Snow White

Childhood memories…

That item, colour, sound, taste or smell that takes you back to those years when everything was just like magic and tasted like cotton candy.

This recipe I am sharing with you is just that…one of my sweet childhood memories that I have kept along the years and which always brings me joy and happiness with every bite.

My Snow White cupcake….just a little twist on the original recipe

The original recipe comes as a cake, but I just recently wanted to try something new, so the Snow White cupcake was born.

Ingredients:

Cake/cupcake

200 g plain flour, 250 g caster sugar, 85 g cocoa powder, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda, 2 eggs, 200 ml milk, 120 ml vegetable oil, 2 tsp vanilla essence, 150 ml boiling water.

Meringue/top decoration

4 egg whites, 220 g powdered sugar, pinch of salt

Kitchen items:

Hand whisk or food processor (in my case I have used KitchenAid for the cake and a hand whisk for the meringue), large heatproof bowl, cupcake cups, decorating pipe, cake tin or muffin pan.

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4 and line the cake tin with great proof paper or get your cupcake cups ready using a muffin pan.

2. Beat the eggs and sugar until smooth, then add the rest of the ingredients except the boiling water.

I’ve used my KitchenAid to mix everything well but you can also use a hand whisk. Once the ingredients are well combined, add the boiling water slow while whisking. The mixture will now be very liquid. Pour the batter into a cake tin or the muffin pan and bake for 20-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

3. Remove the cake/cupcakes from the oven and let it cool down before decorating.

Meringue

Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until the mixture resembles a fluffy cloud, then add the sugar bit by bit while still whisking at a higher speed and making sure you add the sugar slowly.

When ready the mixture should be thick and glossy and ready to be whisked over hot steam.

Put water to boil in a dish that can hold a heat proof bowl above.

You can now transfer the mixture into the heat proof bowl and continue to whisk above heat at a low speed for about 5-10 minutes.

Remove from the heat, set aside for 10 minutes before decorating the cake or cupcakes; then sprinkle with dark chocolate, optional.

I’ve only decorated with chocolate the cake version of this dessert, see below.

The cake version is the one I remember from my childhood

This dessert takes me back but it’s also one of the best I have ever made.

Try it and tell me what you think….

Urban and Wickedly Wonderful

Lipstick and heels…two things I can’t live without 🙂

If you ever had to choose a prime brand to try, Urban Decay is the one!

Smooth, sexy and tasty are just the first three features come to mind when I think about this brand of lipsticks.

FireBird – Urban Decay

I could just spend hours looking at the collection of colours and still not be able to decide for which one I want to go for… hard life 🙂

So far I have tried three shades and a lip liner (Blackmail) and I must say, I am a happy customer.

Firebird is by far my love at first sight or should I say at first kiss.

It does surprise me as it’s a very bold colour and not something I would have chosen in the past, but then again it seems I am becoming more confident and fearless…which I love.

For an evening look, I have chosen a slightly darker shade, a burgundy like colour that somehow works with my latest heels…hahaha (Moshpit – featured image and Seismic, for a more sparkly look)

How come things match when you don’t even try?

If you ever try this brand, let me know your experience 🙂

Summer glow…

Never say never…

In the past I never really went out of my way to be bold and noticeable.

This didn’t mean that I was hiding and keeping it simple, because simple is sometimes the best choice, I just never found myself in a position when I needed to be bold.

…but life is always funny that way.

We always get to a point when we need to take a leap and get out of the bubble we call comfort zone just because it makes us feel different, better and more courageous.

You really don’t need that much bravery to try out a new lipstick but you do need to have choices if you want to go for a bolder colour.

This photo shoot was extremely fun and I hope I’ve made these bold colours justice 🙂

I have always loved the Maybelline lipsticks; not just because they have a huge range of colours but mostly because they smell absolutely delicious!!!

You don’t believe me…try one!

Besides the amazing choice in shades, this lipstick is smooth and tasty on the lips; makes you feel like you could conquer the world just by having one in your bag.

I might be bold saying this, but I can only tell you how I feel when I use it 🙂

Might it be a pink summer afternoon or a vivid blue party night out…the choice is always yours; but don’t ever forget…a little change is good for the soul!

Circle of Love

Life is too short to wear bad lipstick…so dream a little and dare even more!

It’s been a few months now, since I have dived into the fabulous world of lipsticks and the audacious circle of vibrant colours…and I will never look back 🙂

This week, we’ll stop and take a stare at the Avon Matte Collection…

Colours of the rainbow

I must admit, matt colours were never my first choice… but I always wanted to try them out. I wouldn’t choose a matt texture for every colour but I have discovered that most of the time, when it comes to bold and strong shades, matt is the way to go.

While writing, I am browsing through the many photos I took and I find them more inspiring than ever…maybe because, there is something fascinating about how colours make us feel.

Did you ever find yourself smiling without a real argument while admiring a bright and colourful scenery? We always say the same thing…‘it is beautiful’…’it is breathtaking’…or we just gaze silently; but we never really know how to explain the reasons why…

Colours are somehow like magic…they take us by surprise…they give us a warm and misty feel…they make us smile and light up.

Who could have guessed that a lipstick has such a great potential? 🙂

Keep on smiling and just know that you do not always need a reason!
